Sickness in betta fish

 

Like humans, betta fish can also be sick, whether male or female koi betta fish. These pets can't take of themselves in the ways other pet animals can. Such as dogs and cats who can wear clothes and cover up themselves for whatever reason.

Betta fish will give strange signals whenever they are sick or near getting ill as they reside underwater and can't wear anything in particular. It is upon their owners and caretakers to look out for them.

This way, their owner can take steps to save their life and make them live a little longer. Following are the sickness that is normal in betta fish

1.        No eating at all

If your betta fish eats nothing for days, there can be many reasons behind it. It can be either constipation, or they are just not in the mood to eat anything. If this happens for a couple of days or one week, then it is advised to take your fish to the vet as this is the only way left to cure them.

If this thing is neglected or not handled in care, the fish will die sooner or later.

2.        Abnormal movement

Betta fish loves to hover around. They are natural explorers, so you might rarely see your fish staying still. But if this is ever the case and you notice some changed behavior in their body language, such as swimming movement, then perhaps they are showing signs that they are not well.

3.        White spots

They have clear and beautiful skin textures. Their colors are out of this world, and so does their skin patterns. But if you see white spots on their body, even if it is just one white spot, they are sick.

These spots indicate that something internal is going on in the fish, which is not looking good. Either it can be bleeding, constipation, fever, or something to do with water.

4.        Hiding

When fish hide from their owner, light, or other fishes, they are mentally sick. This is a significant threat, especially in the betta case, because these fishes tend to live alone in an aquarium.

5.        Staying low

If your fish stays low and only swims once in a while, they are bored. And their boredom is a lot different from pets and humans. Their boredom is linked to their mental condition; if not treated, they can die in the coming days.

This is why it is advised to always check up on your betta and ensure they are doing fine. If not, don't hesitate to bring them to the vet or any specialized doctor that can cure these types of fish.
